OUT of CHARACTER
Name: Lampdevil
Other characters: Haruto Soma, Felicity Yoshida

IN CHARACTER
Name: Miss Gritta
Alias: May also be referred to as Glitta or Glitter depending on who's doing the translating
Fandom: Ressha Sentai ToQGer
Canon point: Post-series
Journal: [personal profile] shiningeyes
PB: N/A (will be using icons of the monster suit appearance in show. Gritta has no canon human form.)
Age: Mentally she seems to be at an age somewhere between 13 and 16 during the course of the show. I'd set her at 16-17 from the post-canon point that I'd be taking her from. Physically, there's no real way to tell. Shadows are weird.
History: Here is her page on the series wiki.

Presentation: Gritta is a delicate princess in the body of a large purple monster. Her voice is high and sweet, her steps are careful, her body language is that of a well-raised and slightly timid lady.... and still, it can't be denied, she is a large purple monster. Weighing in at around 500 lbs and about 7 feet tall, she's a startling sight to behold. But even a short time spent in her company reveals an interior that's at odds with her exterior. She's very polite, formal in her use of language, and both curious about and concerned for others. Although she's naive about many things and may come across as confused or very sheltered, there's intelligence behind those glowing eyes of hers. She's quick to absorb new information, and quick to devise plans of action based upon it. There's a certain sweetness to her, and though her eyes were probably meant to glow menacingly, they're too soft and too sad to be particularly frightening. She's not a fighter and cringes away from active combat, much preferring to command or convince others to fight for her.

Having very little experience with the world outside of the Shadow Line, Gritta is excited to experience it but cautious when engaging with it. Indoor activities are where she's most comfortable, for she's still anxious around sunlight, and trips out into the big bright world are ones that she'd rather have some company for. This sudden immunity to what once might have killed her seems both too good to be true and possibly fleeting. She's likely to be found carrying around a large parasol to shield herself from the sun, if not simply sticking to the shade. She's a careful planner, and not very spontaneous, and as a result may make you late in getting wherever you're all going together. She's also not used to having actual friends, and may come on too strong, demand too much, or play too roughly. For as mature an air as she tries to present, it frequently slips, demonstrating that she's still young and inexperienced in many things.

Her understanding of the world is slightly skewed, although it may take a little time spent in her company to find this out. She's mostly unperturbed by bad things happening, or at least not bothered to the proper degree. Harm coming to someone that she personally cares about is absolutely awful, while abstract harm to large numbers of people, or harm coming to those she doesn't know well are treated with much milder disappointment. She might be kind and sweet most of the time, but she's strange, and not operating on entirely human thought processes. She'll make an honest effort at trying to understand, and may eventually come to learn how to deal with 'the human world' in a better fashion, but it might be a long and bumpy ride to get there.

Love is a topic of particular interest to her, and she's very sympathetic to others in love. She's eager to hear about dates, about romantic things to do, about two people coming together against all odds and joining their hearts into one... and also eager to try and give advice and encouragement to those that are unlucky in love, or have unrequited feelings for others. Her advice may not be good, but it's sincere. If the matter of love is turned back around to her, however, she's evasive and easily embarrassed and quick to try to deflect things to a different subject.

Motivations: Gritta is a creature of the darkness, as sweet as she might seem to be. Though she has been told that she "shines", and is in possession of the kind of "light" that the Emperor of Darkness covets, she is not entirely composed of it. She firmly believes that suffering and death are as necessary a part of the world as happiness and light are. She has had a lot of time to sit and reflect on the nature of light and darkness and where she fits into it all, and feels that she has come away from it a little wiser than the other denizens of the Shadow Line. She has been closer to the Emperor than anyone, understands his nature better than anyone, and believes that she can manage him better than anyone. She looks at this as her new responsibility and obligation, and being taken away from it would be upsetting. She's the highest-ranking remaining member of the Shadow Line 'nobility', and takes this role very seriously. Even if others may not understand it. Someday they might, and their ignorance won't encourage her to stray from the journey that she's on.

Though she holds no real bitterness towards anyone for her current lot in life, with her mother and the object of her affections dead and the Emperor of Darkness entrusted into her care, she does feel sad about the way things turned out. If she could have them back, she'd be delighted. Even if her mother Madame Noire used her as part of a scheme to rule the Shadow Line by proxy, there was still an enormous amount of love between them. Even if General Schwarz once betrayed her, he eventually dedicated himself to saving her. She still pines for him, and has not fully let go of what might have been. There's much to do and much to occupy herself with, and if more important matters are at hand she can set it temporarily aside... but her girlish infatuation with him is something that she has yet to fully get past.

Though she is well-mannered and soft-spoken, and perfectly capable of being pleasant, she's a schemer. If there is something that she wants, she is constantly on the lookout for ways to go about getting it. She knows that she cannot step up and demand to be given her own way, and so is very experienced about dropping hints, getting information to the right ears, and moving others into position to do what needs to be done. Although she has enabled heroic things to happen and has taken considerable personal risks to execute plans, she is not strictly heroic. Her assisting of the ToQGers in raising Castle Terminal and restoring their hometown played into her own desire to rein the Emperor back in somehow. The Shadow Line is in retreat, but darkness will always exist and someone who isn't short-sighted and uncomprehending of how the Emperor functions needs to be managing it. That the human world was saved as a result isn't bad, necessarily... but not the entirety of what she had intended to accomplish.

While Gritta knows that she is unusual-looking by human standards of attractiveness, she's not particularly anxious or self-conscious about it. By Shadow standards she's a great beauty, or at least a delicate young thing just ready to blossom into her full dark potential. If humans judge her harshly, well, their opinion is hardly one that counts and they're the rude ones. She may have coveted a human form in the past, but only as a means of escaping her upcoming marriage to the Emperor of Darkness and of being able to exist safely in the light of day. It's novel, and perhaps as her power matures she'll be able to assume a human form like other Shadow Line denizens have been shown to do, but she'd need the desire to do so, first.

Setting: Gritta is going to be very upset to be taken away from her responsibilities, and then very confused by what purpose, exactly, the Capitol serves. She comes from a kid's show, and the overall function of "good" and "bad" and "light" and "darkness" are much more simple and straightforward. The brilliant beauty and brightness of The Capitol will clash harshly with reality of how things operate there. Also, she is absolutely not a combatant, and will be very displeased at being thrown into a death arena. She's slow, awkward, without the support of minions from the Shadow Line, and more comfortable with the idea of making people feel bad than making them die. She'll desperately want to try to petition out, likely fail for a lack of valuable skills, and then immediately turn her focus on setting things up to protect herself from any excessive harm. She'll try to make friends, not just for the sake of companionship, but to have someone between her and the hazards of the next arena. Supporting the rebellion will certainly occur to her, but only as a matter of self-interest (Or in the interest of protecting Zed.) Depending on how she comes to understand the functioning of the Capitol, she may even come to support it, seeing it as a 'necessary evil' in a world too complicated to otherwise manage.

SAMPLES
First Person Thread: [Cheating death was nothing new to Gritta. She had been torn to pieces and devoured once before, and come back only a little worse for the wear. It was different, to experience it at the claws and fangs of beasts, but if the end result was waking up whole and free, well... things could be worse. Things could always be worse. She simply lets out a long sigh as she lies there on the cot, feeling no immediate motivation to go anywhere.]

Oh? [The prompting voice is what gets her moving, gets her sitting up and paying some attention to the world around her. A moment is taken to curiously inspect it, and its easy enough to figure out how to activate it. A little more complex than the machines of the Shadow Line, and nowhere near as elegant, but user friendly enough. There's a pause to clear her throat, and then she speaks.]

That was very unpleasant. I'd rather not go through that again. I hadn't expected to win... but I hadn't expected it to end like that.

[There's a little huff, a sound of frustration, and a definite creaking of the cot as she rises from it entirely.]

I won't go through that again. I won't. I refuse.

[And with that declaration she taps the command to end the recording, whirls about, and waits impatiently to be taken away from all of this. She would like a cup of tea, a snack, and something pleasant to distract herself with as soon as possible.]

Prose: Confused at finding herself suddenly somewhere unfamiliar and not the least bit pleased with any of the explanations given to her, it doesn't take much effort on the part of the Peacekeepers to escort Gritta off to be scored. It's all too much of a shock. It doesn't even occur to her to lash out until they've arrived at their destination, and by then it's too late. She gives an alarmed "Oh!" upon entering the room, wide eyes taking in both the spread of weapons and the panel of judges. When she had been told that this would be an evaluation to see how well she would do in a fight to the death, she hardly expected that humans would be judging her. Any force that could bring her here against her will and that wanted to compel her to do such a thing couldn't be human, could it? But there stands (and sits, and lounges) the proof right there before her.

Gritta clasps her hands together, takes a breath to gather her courage, and takes quick shuffling steps into the center of the room. "Excuse me. Excuse me!" There's a pause to allow for them to put their focus on her before she continues. "This is a mistake. An enormous mistake. You must return me to where I came from immediately. If I'm not there to mind the Emperor, terrible things could happen!" This does not seem to convince them, however. They look bored. Uncaring. "Don't you understand?! Please, please, you have to let me go!" And still, those protests are falling on deaf ears. One of the judges has even rolled his eyes. Momentarily stunned into silence, she looks from face to face for any sign of comprehension or curiosity on their part. None. Nothing!

They don't want words, do they? Action might mean more to them. Action might at least get her out of this room, and then she can find her own way back to the Shadow Line and to Zed. With a little huff she turns sharply on one heel and makes for the weapon racks and training dummies. She hesitates a moment, trying to decide what would best prove her point, but in the end she settles on a simple knife. A knife is within her own comfort zone. A knife, she's certain that she can use somewhat competently. "Very well." And with that knife in hand, she rushes in at the nearest training dummy and plunges it into its midsection. It's not a graceful strike, not an experienced one, but one with enough force behind it that it pierces and sticks. And then topples it clear on over with a clatter that startles her and makes her jump back. "Ah...!" No, she can't react like that. This is not the time to be childish and fearful. Their judgement means everything right now. Her hands clasp once again, and she turns to face them all. "That is what I can do. Do you still want me to fight?"

What is your character scored: Gritta's score would be a 4. Even with her powers supressed, she is still a heavy, 7 foot tall monster that is very durable and somewhat stronger than a human. She cannot fight and does not like to fight, but killing her will take some concentrated effort. She has no survival skills other than quick wits and a sense for manipulating others, and is large and slow-moving, and not one used to great feats of athletics or endurance. Also, her eyes glow in the dark, which can't be turned off and has to be some sort of liability. The crowd might take pity on her, but for as cute as she can act, she doesn't look cute. She might have difficulty bringing in sponsors.

With her powers available, she's still fairly limited in what she can do. As Shadows go, she's not an inherently combat-oriented one. She has been shown to fire small projectiles of darkness under duress. Her major demonstrated canon power is to absorb the powers of others by devouring them. Doing so will not only give her the absorbed being's power, but will modify her appearance and personality as well. She devoured the Emperor of Darkness in canon and became much colder and more mature, with red eyes rather than her glowing white ones. While her power was described in-canon as being "the power to absorb her husband" (thus the need for betrothing her to the Emperor and piles of scheming), she has been demonstrated to similarly devour other things that are perhaps less difficult to digest. She is hesitant to use this power as it fundamentally changes who she is, but an arena may leave her desperate enough to try and consume a fellow Tribute. As it stands, she might attempt to 'devour' things like ghosts, illusions, magical manifestations, and gain temporary measures of strength from them.

Token: A rose-embroidered handkerchief, slightly singed at the edges, that once belonged to General Schwarz.
